Last week, our CEO Karen Burdett joined a powerful conversation alongside Carol, the mother of Maddie, one of our Greenacres participants, sharing insights on what it truly means to create a full and meaningful life for people with disability.
Carol spoke about her experience raising her daughter Maddie, who has Down syndrome, and the intentional choices that helped build her independence, confidence and outlook on life. From the beginning, the focus was always on what Maddie could do, not what she could not.
Karen added to the discussion by highlighting the role that meaningful employment, community and opportunity play in shaping outcomes for people with disability and their families.
Together, the conversation explored important ideas around identity, independence and the impact of raising expectations. It is a reminder that when people are supported in the right environment and given real opportunities, they can thrive.
